Grace Park Dog Training

September 3, 2015 Posted by Grace Park Dogs/Puppies, Socialization, Training

Good training is good science. Our marker-based training program is based firmly on scientific learning principles. The evidence clearly shows that positive reinforcement is not only best for the animal, but is also highly effective. At Grace Park Animal Hospital, your instructor will teach you how to use the most up-to-date positive training techniques. You will be learning along with your dog! Your dog will be learning to reliably perform behaviors on cue, and you will be learning to better understand and train your dog.

“Positive is not permissive”

Good training is good science. Our marker-based training program is based firmly on scientific learning principles. The evidence clearly shows that positive reinforcement is not only best for the animal, but is also highly effective. At Grace Park Animal Hospital, your instructor will teach you how to use the most up-to-date positive training techniques. You will be learning along with your dog! Your dog will be learning to reliably perform behaviors on cue, and you will be learning to better understand and train your dog.

You control the learning pace

You and your dog will progress as a team through training objectives at your own pace. When you and your dog “get the behavior,” you can add challenges to “proof” it. In each class, you will learn new skills, but you will also work on improving the level of the skills already learned.  Because our classes have a flexible format, it is often valuable to repeat a course at the same level, and strengthen the skills that you and your dog have learned by proofing with new dogs, multiple cues between treats, and adding the Three D’s—Duration, Distance, and Distractions—to behaviors such as Sit-Stay and Down-Stay.

Effective training is also fun!

A huge part of becoming a good trainer is learning how to set your dog up for success each and every time you ask or expect her to do something, while incrementally adding criteria and the Three D’s. This step-by-step process actually ends up working better and faster than skipping steps, and your dog will love training because she is playing a game that she usually wins!
