Second Chance Pet Adoptions
Second Chance Pet Adoptions is the oldest no-kill rescue organization in Wake County. At Second Chance, our mission is to champion homeless cats and dogs who are healthy or treatable in the quest to find their forever homes and engage with our community to promote responsible pet ownership, ultimately reducing future generations of homeless animals. Thanks to donors like you, we’ve been able to give over 17,000 animals a second chance to find love since 1987.

Fancy Nancy’s owner surrendered her—and 40 or so additional dogs—to a local shelter, and in early June 2022, this mixed-breed gal made her way to Second Chance.
Volunteer foster mom Meagan has been doting on her ever since, and that includes spoiling her with silly, soft robes after her medicated baths. Hairless, scabbed, yellow, infected skin is just one infliction Fancy Nancy arrived with: Rotten teeth. Ehrlichiosis. Ear infections. A hernia. Fancy Nancy waited years for help, for relief, and because of our donors, she’s getting it now. She’ll be especially thrilled when her legs and feet are treated: she won’t bear any weight on her left rear leg, likely due to an injury to a tendon long ago. Our veterinarians have recommended laser therapy, massage, and physical therapy, in addition to removing the mass on her rear right foot.
As the name suggests, Fancy Nancy is no cheap date. On top of all her specialized care, she also needs the basics, like vaccines and getting spayed (scheduled for next week—one step closer to adoption!). Our organization can only give this kind of help because of the supporters who donate so animals can get their second chances!
