Round Up for Rescue – May 2022

May 1, 2022 Posted by Grace Park Blog, Community Involvement

Featured Rescue of the Month

Southeast Corgi Rescue

Southeast Corgi Rescue is an all-volunteer, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to finding homes for rescued corgis and corgi mixes where they can live, love, be loved, and thrive in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Dewey resting
Southeast Corgi Rescue

Behind this adorable puppy face was a puppy with too many issues for one so young. Meet Dewey. This little boy was rescued at 12 weeks. Dewey was incontinent and had problems with his rear mobility. Despite his issues, he had the best temperament and was adored by all who met him, including the staff at Grace Park.

Dewey was referred to NC State veterinary school for further diagnostics. Before his appointment there, he went downhill quickly and required hospitalization at the emergency clinic ICU. Despite aggressive treatment, Dewey continued to decline. He became lethargic and stopped eating. X-ray and ultrasound revealed that his kidneys, ureters, and bladder were all malformed, leaving us with no treatment options. While we loved Dewey very much, we made the difficult decision to let him go and be at peace.

Sadly, not all rescue cases have a happy ending, but we did all we could to help Dewey live his best life. While we could not save this sweet boy, there are many more dogs in the Southeast Corgi Rescue that can use your help. Please use the Round Up for Rescue option at Grace Park Animal Hospital so that we can help more dogs have a chance at a positive outcome and happy life with a family of their own!
