4th Of July – Fun For Us, Scary For Pets!

4th Of July – Fun For Us, Scary For Pets!

July 1, 2016 Posted by Grace Park Cats/Kittens, Dogs/Puppies, Holiday, Safety

Most of us have pleasant feelings about the 4th of July. Not only is it a celebration of our country’s independence, but a chance for a long weekend filled with cookouts, friends and family, and fireworks. Our pets may not share the same excitement for this holiday, though.

Fireworks can be very stressful for pets, especially those with noise phobias. Turning on some background noise to drown out the sound of fireworks can be helpful for some pets. Others may respond well to wearing a Thundershirt, which is a tight-fitting jacket that helps stimulate pressure points on the body that encourage calm and relaxation. Pheromones can also be beneficial in helping with these phobias. Some pets with more severe noise phobias may benefit from anti-anxiety medication, so talk with your veterinarian if you think your pet may need some help!

So, hopefully you can avoid these dangers of this extended weekend so both you and your pet can have a nice holiday!
